Wings (Russian: Крылья, tr. Krylya) is a 1966 Soviet black and white drama film directed by Ukrainian filmmaker Larisa Shepitko, her first feature film made after graduating from the All-Russian State Institute for Cinematography.

Larisa Shepitko was born on January 6, 1938 in Artyomovsk, Ukrainian SSR, USSR as Larisa Yefimovna Shepitko. She was a director and writer, known for The Ascent (1977), Znoy (1963) and Ty i ya (1971). She was married to Elem Klimov. She died on July 2, 1979.

Until recently I had not even heard of Larisa Shepitko, by chance I came across one of her movies online, and I must say both these movies " Wings" & " The Ascent ", are hidden gems, it's a shame Shepitko's life was tragedically cut short in a car crash in 1979, aged only 41.
